With the end of the year approaching, we know how important it is to take a break and spend quality time with loved ones. And what better way to do that than by embarking on fun activities with the whole family.
That's why we’ve pulled together a one-day programme to keep you all entertained. So, grab your drink bottles and togs, put on your adventure hats, and get ready to have a blast!
Gisborne’s Kiwa Pools opened in September and is proving popular with everyone. There are three inside pools. A multi-purpose 50m pool, a leisure and toddler’s pool, and a learn-to-swim/hydrotherapy pool. The pools replace the aging Olympic Pools, which closed in August. To find out more, visit the Gisborne District Council website.
Both Midway and Waikanae beaches are not far from Kiwa Pools. You can take a stroll along the Oneroa walkway to either beach.
Once you’re done at Waikanae Beach, grab an ice cream at Captain Morgans. Then head to Skate Park, a short ten minutes’ walk away. Don’t forget to make plans to take your skateboards with you or transport them in the car.
It’s a pleasant walk by the Waikanae Stream set amongst trees with an array of birdlife foraging in the stream. Check out the pump track nearby which is free to use and proving very popular with kids.
Mini golf is a fun and inexpensive way for the family to spend quality time. It is open during the i-Site opening hours. Depending on how many of you are planning to play, allow up to an hour and a half to complete the course.
The day is not complete until you enjoy some fish & chips down by the beach. Then head to the Odeon Cinema on Gladstone Road to watch the latest movie on the big screen.
Tairawhiti Gisborne website has other ideas for the family in other parts of the region. If time allows, make sure you check them out.
